The Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance Co. (HK) Ltd. ("TMF(HK)") is a member of Tokio Marine Group, one of the largest international insurance groups in the world.

Tokio Marine's presence in Hong Kong can be dated back to 1879. The business has been growing together with the post-war economy of Hong Kong since 1953. TMF(HK) is now one of the top Marine Cargo insurance companies in Hong Kong.

Tokio Marine was established as the first insurance company in Japan.
Tokio Marine's first own building in 1887-1895.
1888
The Peak Tram commenced service in 1888, becoming the first cable funicular in Asia.
The wooden tram's haulage system was powered by coal fired steam boilers.
1953
Tokio Marine started marine cargo insurance business in Hong Kong through a local company named Wuphoon. It was Tokio Marine's first overseas business after World War II.
1953
The Shek Kip Mei fire in 1953 destroyed the homes of 58,000 people. This prompted an emergency housing program that introduced the 'multi-storey building' as a common building form.
Shek Kip Mei Estate is the first public housing estate in Hong Kong. It was built to settle those who lost their homes in the Shek Kep Mei fire in 1953.
1973
Wuphoon Insurance Co. Ltd was established in 1973.
Incorporation of Wuphoon Insurance.
1972
Hong Kong broke its ties with sterling and linked its currency to the United States dollar.
1979
Tokio Marine acquired 100% share of Wuphoon Insurance Co. Ltd. In the same year, Tokio Marine Group celebrated its 100th anniversary.
1983
On Black Saturday, 24th September 1983, the HK$ collapsed, falling to HK$9.6 / US$1. The government responded with a linked exchange rate on 17 October 1983.
The first $20 banknote was issued in 1985 by Standard Chartered Bank.
1996
Our company name was changed from Wuphoon Insurance Co. Ltd. to The Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance Co. (HK) Ltd.
1997
The handover of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China was at midnight on 1 July 1997.
The ceremonies for the handover of Hong Kong and establishment of The HKSAR were held at The Golden Bauhinia Square in July 1997.
2006
Tokio Marine Hong Kong started developing local business.
2008
Beijing was the host city for the 2008 Summer Olympics Games, and Hong Kong was the host of the equestrian competitions.
The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest was the site for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics 2008.
2013
Tokio Marine Hong Kong celebrated its 60th anniversary with over 400 guests at The Hongkong Japanese Club and Asia Society Hong Kong Center.

2015
The Insurance Authority was established in 2015 as a new insurance regulator independent of the Government.
2021
Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance was a Gold Partner, one of the sponsors, of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"Challenge Square" created by Tokio Marine to display messages of support for swimmers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
2021
Hong Kong's best performance in Olympics was at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
