Marine Cargo and Goods in Transit Insurance is an integral part of International Trade and is required by Importers, Exporters, Manufacturers, Distributors, Retailers, Wholesalers and others engaged in the transportation of goods by sea, air, road, rail and post. The main hazards exposed during transit are:

  • Perils of the sea
  • Theft
  • Malicious Damage
  • Fire and Accidental Damage
Coverage

In Hong Kong market, the most commonly used clauses are the Institute Cargo Clauses (A) 1/1/1982, which provide coverage in respect of All Risks of loss of or damage (subject to certain exclusions) to the subject matter insured whilst in transit. In addition, we provide the following extensions:

  1. Other Interests and Voyages held covered at rates and conditions to be advised
  2. General Average and Salvage Charges payable irrespective of contributory values
  3. Return and/or Rejected Shipments held covered at rates and conditions to be advised
  4. Loading and Unloading Risks

In the absence of "All Risks" insurance, coverage may be provided on the more restrictive basis, such as Institute Cargo Clauses (B) or Institute Cargo Clauses (C) according to the cargo nature or other situation. (Please refer to the comparison table below)

If you are exporting or importing on terms making you responsible for the insurance then the following will assist you in arranging the appropriate insurance coverage.

The coverage required may be either in respect of:

  1. policy for a single shipment by sea/air/rail/post; or
  2. annual policy subject to monthly declarations or as otherwise arranged; or
  3. annual policy subject to deposit premium and annual adjustment.
